Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This site is operated by The FreeSense Project, an open-source community project. For privacy questions, contact us via the FreeSense-org GitHub organization.

2. Cookies & local storage

We set no advertising or tracking cookies. When you answer the cookie notice, your answer is saved in one cookie, fs-cookie-consent (accepted or declined). It is set for all of freesense.org, including the documentation and security sites, so you are asked once and the notice does not return on any other page or site. It lasts one year, is not used to identify you and is sent only to freesense.org sites. Accepting or declining is what allows this cookie to be saved, and you can delete it or change your answer at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. The same answer is also kept as a copy in your browser's localStorage. The only other value is fs-theme in localStorage, which remembers whether you chose the light, dark or system colour theme. Neither contains personal information.

If you decline, the theme choice is kept in your browser's sessionStorage instead, which your browser clears when you close the tab; only the notice choice stays (in the cookie), so we do not ask again. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer, and you can clear the cookie and both values from your browser's site data.

The documentation (docs.freesense.org) and the security site (security.freesense.org) share the same cookie and notice, and keep their own theme values: the documentation remembers your theme as starlight-theme, the security site as fs-theme.

3. Server logs (hosting)

The website, package service and download images are served by Cloudflare (Pages and R2). As part of delivering and protecting them, Cloudflare processes standard request metadata such as your IP address, browser user-agent and the page or file requested. This is used only for operating the service, security and abuse prevention, under Cloudflare's own privacy terms. We do not combine it with anything else or use it to identify you.

4. Third-party requests

• Releases and updates: the website reads public release documents from pkg.freesense.org and recent commits and app releases from the public GitHub API, through this site's own server. Installer images are served by downloads.freesense.org.
• GitHub: links to source code and issues take you to github.com, which has its own privacy policy.

5. Installed FreeSense systems

FreeSense contains no project telemetry, device registration, automatic configuration upload or usage reporting. The updater makes unauthenticated HTTPS requests to pkg.freesense.org for a signed repository manifest, update notes, repository metadata and packages. Network services and optional packages you enable may contact the upstream services you configure; those connections are separate from FreeSense project telemetry.

6. What we do not do

We do not run advertising networks, social-media trackers, session recording or fingerprinting. We do not create user profiles. We do not sell, rent or share personal data.

7. Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, the GDPR gives you rights to access, correct or erase personal data and to object to processing. Because this site does not collect or store personal data beyond the transient server logs described above, there is normally nothing to retrieve, but you are welcome to contact us with any request or question.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes are reflected by the “last updated” date above.
